The 6-day Kilimanjaro trekking tour via the Umbwe Route is designed for seasoned adventurers seeking a steep, scenic, and less-traveled trail to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the most difficult non-technical route, Umbwe is favored by experienced hikers for its direct path, low crowds, and dramatic landscapes.

Moshi – Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m)

Hiking Time: 5–6 hours | Distance: 11 km

After breakfast in Moshi, we drive to Umbwe Gate for registration. The trek begins immediately with a steep climb through the rainforest. The trail follows a narrow ridge between deep gorges, arriving at Umbwe Cave Camp.

Umbwe Cave – Barranco Camp (3,900m)
Day-4-Barranco-Camp

Hiking Time: 4–5 hours | Distance: 6 km

The forest gives way to heath and moorland as you ascend steep ridges and rocky terrain. Enjoy jaw-dropping views of Mount Meru and the Southern Icefields before reaching Barranco Camp, one of the most scenic campsites on Kilimanjaro.

Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (3,995m)

Hiking Time: 4–5 hours | Distance: 5 km

After breakfast, tackle the iconic Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble that leads to stunning views. The trail then follows a series of ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp for overnight rest.

Hiking Time: 3–4 hours | Distance: 4 km

Today is a shorter but steep climb to Barafu Camp, your final base before the summit attempt. You’ll arrive in time to eat, rest, and prepare for the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak.

Summit Day – Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp
Uhuru-Peak

Hiking Time: 12–15 hours | Distance: 17 km

Begin your ascent around midnight. The trail leads to Stella Point, and then a final push to Uhuru Peak – the highest point in Africa. After your summit celebration, descend back to Barafu, then continue down to Mweka Camp for well-earned rest.

Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
Kilimanjaro-Mweka-Gate

Hiking Time: 3–4 hours | Distance: 10 km

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. After a short celebration and certificate ceremony, we transfer you back to Moshi for a hot shower and relaxation.
